Barbells are used with an array of different weights to perform many different compound training movements. This includes bench presses when used along with a workout bench, squats when used atop a squat rack and deadlifts from the ground to name just a few.
When choosing weights to accompany your barbell, take into account that the bar itself has weight. This will influence how much you’ll add to each end of the bar to create your total combined weight.
Also, be mindful of the clips at each end of the bar as this will affect how long it will take to adjust the weight.
